Exploring the Inner Landscape
We live in a world of light. I call that world my Inner Landscape. I think of my art as Visual Illuminations. My intention while I work is to recreate the light that I see within and without myself. As an artist and teacher, my goal is to share the love and light I experience with everyone I come into contact. The images on this site are the result of my journey of self discovery. They are influenced by my love of nature, my meditations and the questions I have asked about who am I? Why am I here? What is my life’s purpose?
Ever since I can remember, I have been making things. Sometimes sculpture, sometimes drawing, and now jewelry, but the focus has been on creating the essence of who I am through art and then sharing that work however I can. I live in Pollock Pines, California with my husband Jerry and our Australian Shepherd Yoshi and our cat Mika.
I basically have 3 passions, making art, being in nature (specifically the Sierra Nevada mountains of California), and practicing Yoga and Meditation. I find that all three interlace in a way that nurtures and supports me. This focus has been the inspiration for my drawings and my life theme,“Exploring the Inner Landscape”
I discovered drawing on black paper about 10 years ago. What I found was a way to create light. There is a wonderful contrast between the blackness of the paper, and the white Prismacolor as an under base which allows me to focus on creating light. That is the true intent of my drawings. Being in the Light! I use all kinds of images to reflect what I am feeling and experiencing in my daily life. A lot of the images come from dreams, but often they are images that come to me after spending a day out in the garden or hiking in the local mountains. This same inspiration is also reflected in the Jewelry pieces I stated making once I retired from teaching Ceramics.
