This drawing is a Matjia Poppy. It is a native California plant. I have found them hard to grow in the city, and I am hoping now that we have moved to the country I can plant a few in dry sunny spots on the property. This is one of two drawings of this type of flower and are clearly influenced by Georgia O’Keefe.
I also decided to make a few pieces that reflected the simplicity of the California Poppy. I couldn’t quite match the color of the poppy with the enamel that I had, and I found using blue for the centers added more of a visual punch.
