Moving North

august2006-054

Six months ago Jerry and I sold our home in Sierra Madre, and moved here to Pollock Pines. It took us over a year to sell that house and achieve our dream of living in the mountains on acreage.  Actually it was a dream I have had since I moved to southern California many many years ago.  That this has actually happened is a dream come true and I  am so grateful and happy to be here. It certainly didn’t come easily, selling that house was a real challenge. We  mistakenly thought that by owning a house in Sierra Madre we were sitting on a gold mine and it would sell really fast.  Boy were we wrong!  The street was too busy, the master bedroom was up stairs, it faced the wrong direction and didn’t have a garage. The floor plan was awkward.  It seemed like no one saw how unique and beautiful our house was and that it was in walking distance to downtown Sierra Madre, had great schools, and the upstairs master suite was like living in a tree house.  A year after we put it on the market it did sell. Once again the move was not easy, 2 days before escrow closed, Jerry had surgery.   We had to be out of our house, no place to go, and  face a 7 hour drive to our rustic cabin in Kyburz, Ca. Thankfully we have good friends who gave us a place to stay for a few days until we could make the drive north.

A month after we sold our house, we made an offer on this one  Getting to this point was also challenging.   Either the houses we looked at were just not right for us, wrong location etc or we would make an offer and get over bid by other buyers.  Evidently that happens a lot.  We began to think we would have to spend the winter in our rustic little cabin and knew that would not work at all.  Besides having a dry spring, once the snow comes in the road in is not passable until April.  We had heard a rumor that a friend of a friend was thinking about selling his house.  Turns out, it was in the exact location we wanted to be and had 3 acres.  The rest is history, 2 months from the day our house sold, we moved into this house in Pollock Pines, California.  It’s a transition, but I don’t miss traffic, hot weather or crowds.  I can walk out my front door and hike around a lake whenever I want. If I look outside all I see are trees and no neighbors.   Our little seasonal creek is full of water once again.

This new blog is my way of celebrating the move to a new location, to share my art and the photos I take on my hikes around the area. I took this photo this morning at Jenkinson Lake.  Life is Good
